Workshops
At-Bristol's KS4 workshops are available throughout the academic year and support a visit to At-Bristol. Presented by trained science communicators, our range of workshops are designed to develop students' knowledge, skills and understanding of how science works and maps to aspects of the new GCSE and BTEC specifications.
All the workshops listed are £3.00 per pupil.
Education entry rates and services are available weekdays in term-time, 10am to 5pm (last entry at 4.30pm).
NEW-DNA Detectives
Delve into the thrilling world of forensic science with our new KS4 workshop!
In this hands-on introduction to modern forensic techniques, students will work with DNA samples to compare various suspects to a crime scene sample. Using restriction enzymes and gel electrophoresis, the students will produce and anaylse DNA fingerprints to establish who is the guilty party and gain a thorough understanding of this technique and its many uses outside of criminal investigations.

Meet the gene machine
This dialogue-led workshop is designed to engage young people in the social and ethical implications raised by advances in medical genetics. The workshop creates opportunities for students to discuss these issues through a combination of fast paced humour and engaging debate.

NEW-Sustainability at all scales
This practical workshop uses At-Bristol as a real-life case study of adaptive engineering in response to the sustainability agenda. An overview of sustainability and its implications for engineering is completed by an exclusive tour of At-Bristol, highlighting innovative systems such as our eutectic tank. Students are then equipped to collect and analyse their own data across the site.

Main Themes: Supports units in BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science and links to 'How Science Works' at GCSE level. The workshop also has strong links to maths, geography and ICT.
Experience psychology
Students will use a combination of workshop activities and interactive exhibits to investigate intriguing areas of psychology. Alongside our expert team of science communicators, students conduct investigations into memory and illusions. This workshop includes a one hour trail through At-Bristol including our real human brain exhibit.

Planetarium Shows
At-Bristol offers a range of exciting presenter-led shows Planetarium. Specially designed for school groups, these engaging shows link closely to the curriculum.
All shows are £1.00 per pupil and last 30 minutes.
Planetarium shows maximum group size 86.
NEW-Exploring the Universe
In the unique and immersive setting of At-Bristol's Planetarium students will explore the life cycle of stars and will be challenged to think about how scientists develop theories from the observational evidence they gather. They will be given the opportunity to observe deep space objects in different colours and explore how this relates to the nature of the Universe.
Special theme days
These specially designed days challenge and excite students, providing enriching and cross-curricula experiences through a range of innovative activities including visiting experts in the field. Special theme days must be booked at least a month in advance and are available throughout the academic year.
Cost: £14.50 per student including entry to At-Bristol.
Duration: 5 hours.
Minimum group size: 20. Maximum group size: 60.
Earth and beyond
Students will learn to navigate the night sky and explore deep space objects in a specialised session in the Planetarium. Remotely accessing the Faulke’s telescope located in Hawaii, they will plan and execute a real-time observation session and may even get to make a few discoveries of their own! A space themed scavenger hunt in At-Bristol gives students plenty of opportunity to explore the exhibitions.
