Get set for a puzzling Easter holiday in At-Bristol
Running from 25 March 2005
This Easter, visitors to Explore-At-Bristol will get even more hands-on
fun with the launch of PuzzleMania! a brand-new exhibition that will
bamboozle the brain cells! From giant board games, cryptic challenges and
mysterious mind teasers, there’s a whole host of interactive activities
that reveal the wizard world of numbers.
Sponsored by Bristol based Clerical Medical, PuzzleMania! is split into
three rooms all bursting with brain bending exhibits that explore how much
we use maths in our everyday lives. From following recipes, to tying knots
and planning a journey, there are calculations involved in pretty much
everything. So if you’re game for some brain bending fun, make yourself at
home and see if you can crack all the games and gizmos!
In the kitchen, there’s some tricky tiling and puzzling patterns to solve.
Discover the art of tessellating and get inspired to make some patterns of
your own. Moving to the garage, you’ll need to be armed with plenty of
detective tools. See if you can find the best route for the travelling
salesman and try and work out the mysteries of mapping. There are also
some nasty knots to detangle and a car boot that needs packing with
luggage - a task requiring plenty of logical loading!
But the brain-bending fun doesn’t end there, in the heart of the house is
the family room filled with games galore. Be a pawn on a gigantic money
board game and challenge your friends in a race to make it rich. With 3D
noughts and crosses, speed chess, reflective jigsaws and a huge soma cube
to crack, there’s no excuse to be bored this Easter. If your solving
skills are still not sated then why not take on the final door tour
challenge. Can you find a route through the house that passes through each
door only once?
PuzzleMania! has been created by At-Bristol and Glasgow Science Centre and
is supported by Clerical Medical, the pension, savings and investments
specialists.
Valerie Collins, At-Bristol’s Exhibitions Director says, ’PuzzleMania! is
a fantastic family exhibition that illustrates the true magic of numbers.
Through team games, puzzles and interactive exhibits, PuzzleMania! aims to
put everyone’s solving skills to the test!’
Commenting on the exhibition, John Hiew, Managing Director, Clerical
Medical said, “Mathematics isn’t always the most popular subject with
young people, but by offering alternative ways of learning, such as the
PuzzleMania! Experience, maths becomes more fun and appealing. As one of
the leading players in the financial services industry, we are committed
to encouraging greater involvement in numeracy amongst youngsters as well
as the general public at large.”
Entrance to PuzzleMania! is free with a ticket to Explore and advance
attraction tickets can be purchased via the information line on 0845 345
