Robots, rotters and 3D Aliens – it’s all happening in
At-Bristol this summer!
23 July - 31 August 2005
There’s no excuse to be bored this summer holidays, just head to
At-Bristol and get stuck into the huge range of action packed shows, films
and Meet the expert sessions taking place across the site.
Visit the top floor of Explore and get to grips with all things automated
in Robots Revealed, a fantastic new events programme presented in
collaboration with the University of the West of England (UWE). Find out
what makes a robot tick, discover the incredible things robots can do and
see if you can work out what the future may hold.
In the Robo-arena you can take a closer look at real robots and watch
UWE’s incredible LinuxBots in action. There’s also a replica of one of the
oldest robots in existence, Grey Walter’s robotic tortoise, built in
Bristol during the 1950’s. Discover the links this robot has with a moth
and catch incredible footage of real robots in action around the world.
But the robo-action doesn’t end there; there’s Robot thought, a fun-packed
family show that will really get you thinking and Robo-stations, a range
of table-top activities, from designing your own robot, to constructing
crazy K’NEX-bots. Also watch out for the fantastic range of Meet the Robo-Pro
sessions and robot-themed events running throughout the summer. The
line-up starts with the phenomenal Robogeddon, the arena-based combat
experience, where you can test out your robotic combat skills against
other roboteers. Robogeddon takes centre stage in Anchor Square from 23 to
31 July so there’s plenty of time to hone your battle skills!
The focus moves from robots to rotters over in Wildwalk with a whole host
of activities based around nature’s natural recyclers. Do you know what
detrivores do? Find out in the compost crazy Really Rotten Show. Recycling
wrigglies including worms, giant millipedes, and cockroaches will be on
show in this whirlwind tour around all things wasteful! In the
accompanying Little Rotters, you can get up close and personal with all
these creatures in a fun-packed animal handling session, which reveals the
disgusting things detrivores feed on! They’ll also be some waste-wizards
on the floor who will tell you a tale or two about exactly what goes on in
the murky depths of a pile of rubbish.
Finally don’t miss the new IMAX film, Aliens of the Deep 3D. Take a
dramatic 3D journey to the depths of the ocean to reach earth's most
extreme, deepest and unknown environments, encountering some of the
strangest life forms on Earth. From 6-foot tall worms with blood-red
plumes to white crabs and an astonishing biomass of blind‚ white shrimp,
the findings are unlike all other life on Earth. Using state-of-the-art 3D
technology these creatures come to life, appearing to swim into the
audience to give viewers a closer look at the aliens of our own world!
