Get animated behind the scenes of Wallace and Gromit’s latest adventure
Running from 3 October 2005

This autumn, visitors to Explore-At-Bristol will get an amazing behind the scenes insight into the science and magic of animation with a brand new interactive exhibition Animated Adventures. Coinciding with the launch of Aardman and DreamWorks’ latest feature film Wallace & Gromit The Curse of the Were-rabbit, this unique exhibition showcases many of the incredible sets and characters from the film.

Taking everyone on an interactive journey through all things animated, the Animated Adventures exhibition captures the full animation process from storyboards to set design. Find out how the world’s top animators create their on-screen characters and discover the art of cel painting, stop frame and CGI technology. All the industry’s secrets are revealed through a fun and engaging mix of hands-on exhibits and multi-media pods that guarantee to get everyone animated!

Explore will also get an exclusive addition to the touring exhibition with two of the main sets from the much anticipated film Wallace & Gromit The Curse of the Were-rabbit on show. Visitors will get a rare insight into Aardman’s model-making and animation processes and get up close to see the incredible detail involved in their handcrafted sets and models.

Dominating the floor is the set from the film’s lavish final scene with the backdrop of the awesome Tottington Hall, the venue of the film’s main event - the annual Giant Vegetable Competition. This was the largest set used in the film’s production and is home to a huge magical fairground. Catch the crowd of characters in the midst of a carnival of vibrantly coloured tents, beautiful carousels and fun-filled fairground rides. As the film’s title suggests, rabbits also feature greatly in the film - see how many you can spot in the set. From prize bunnies at the hook a duck stall to bunny shaped balloons, they have simply been breeding like, well...rabbits!

But that’s not all, the exhibition includes another ten Aardman film sets to admire. You can take a sneak peek inside Lady Tottington’s sumptuous home, see Wallace and Gromit’s bunny-laden basement and get a closer look at Wallace’s new hair-brained contraptions. You can even see how the furry buck-toothed Were-rabbit was constructed in a stage-by-stage display!

A whopping 2.7tons of plasticine was used in the production of the film, equivalent to the weight of a Land Rover, and each character gets a new pair of eyes every two months! Why not come and discover loads more fascinating facts about this comic adventure film that took four years in the making.

Valerie Collins, At-Bristol’s Exhibitions Director says, ’Animated Adventures is a fabulous touring exhibition that will give everyone the chance to learn about the animation process, picking up top tips and having a lot of fun along the way. Having sets from Aardman Animations’ latest film is also an incredible privilege, offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience a behind the scenes insight into their Oscar® winning filmmaking.’

Animated Adventures has been funded by the Millennium Commission and designed and developed by W5, the Interactive Discovery Centre in Belfast. It is the first of three touring exhibitions developed by a consortium of the UK’s top science museums: At-Bristol, the National Museums of Liverpool and W5.

The exhibition opens to the public on 3 October and is free with a ticket to Explore. For more information please call the information line 0845 3451235.
