Jet into At-Bristol for some airport adventures!
13 March 2006

On 13 March, a brand new touring exhibition especially for children under eight will take pride of place on the top floor of Explore. Called Jet, set go, it lets little ones imaginations take flight, experiencing the excitement of airport adventures and travelling tales.

The exhibition is part of the Let’s imagine series, comprising three touring exhibitions designed by At-Bristol in partnership with Satrosphere and Inspire science discovery centres. The exhibition has been funded by the Millennium Commission with support from the Garfield Weston Foundation.

Through playful and creative games and activities, Jet set, go stimulates children’s curiosity about the world around them. Children will discover what it’s like to work in the hustle and bustle of the airport or on a plane, taking in all the thrills of going away on holiday. From the action in air traffic control to landing logistics on the runway, there are plenty of fun-packed flight challenges to enjoy!

Little ones can get their passport stamped at check in and embark on a huge journey of discovery, moving through baggage x-ray and on to the activities in the aircraft cabin. Here they can listen to the globetrotting tales of Freddy and Teddy or try to pack the right kit for different destinations around the world. Will it be hot or cold? Do you need snow–shoes or flip-flops?

Next there are some air traffic troubles to solve in the control tower. Kids can role-play as the air traffic controller, using the clocks, radar screen and radio to help guide all the planes in the sky. They can even talk to the pilot in the cockpit, complete with its own dressing up costumes and airport sound and light effects!

Dan Bird, At-Bristol’s Director of Exhibitions says, ’Jet set, go is a fantastic exhibition packed full of activities to stimulate the minds of children during their first eight years. We have really succeeded in finding ways of making the exhibition fun, safe and intuitive while appealing to different types of children right across the age range. It’s set to be a great success in Explore!’

Jet set, go has been created as a touring exhibition uniquely for children under eight and strikes a balance between independent activities and the chance for children to play and learn on their own, in groups or with their adult carers.

The exhibition runs from 13 March to October 2006 and is free with a ticket to Explore. For more information call 0845 345 1235 or view www.at-bristol.org.uk.
