including great apes, sports and palaeontology. Ranging
in size from 150m2 to 450m2, each has been developed to appeal to a
wide range of ages and interest levels and to attract both school
groups and the general public.
Once you have chosen a time you would like to hire an At-Bristol
travelling exhibition, a contract is negotiated and the booking
confirmed. At-Bristol’s Travelling Exhibition staff will then liaise
with you to determine the best layout for the exhibition in your
exhibition space.
Unless otherwise stated, exhibitions are installed, tested and
approved by At-Bristol technical staff to ensure that they are ready
to open on time in perfect working order. After installation, regular
contact is maintained and any maintenance issues dealt with
immediately. Exhibitions are provided with a manual including
education and marketing resource materials.

Inside DNA:
A Genomic Revolution |
Identity Crime Ancestry Evolution Health Drugs Mutation Development
|
Inside DNA is all about our health, our identity and our evolution.
It is a unique exhibition aiming to engage the public in current and
future UK-based human molecular genetics and genomics research,
providing the tools to enable them to explore the issues that recent
developments have raised.
Designed to provoke questions and stimulate debate, Inside DNA
delves into ethical questions such as whether genetic testing will
lead to discrimination, who will benefit most from genetic
medicines, and the role of DNA databases. The exhibition is
accompanied by associated learning and engagement programmes.
Inside DNA contains contemporary materials and experiences, with
frequently updated content to coincide with significant developments
in genomics research throughout the five years of the project. |
 |
|

|
Inside DNA is designed to attract
visitors from a wide range of backgrounds and will be readily
accessible to adults and to school students aged 14 to 19. It
supports the curriculum at KS3, KS4 and Post-16, including aspects
of How Science Works. It is particularly relevant for students of
Science, Citizenship, PSHE, Applied Science, Biology, Human
Biology and Science for Public Understanding. |
The exhibition zones
Inside DNA – an introduction: How is our
current knowledge of the structure, function and interactions of the
human genome changing our understanding of human biology? How much DNA
do we have? And how can different genetic mutations affect an
organism?
Human identity: The study of contemporary genetics is helping
to identify similarities and differences between us, but what are the
personal and forensic applications of this knowledge? Here people can
discover how many other visitors to the exhibition have the same
genetic traits, or investigate a murder by profiling the evidence at
the crime scene.
Genes and health: There is great potential for applying
contemporary genetics in medicine in order to help us better identify,
understand and treat disease. Find out about the tests available to
screen for genetic disorders, or discuss the ethical questions raised
by pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.
Human evolution: How did humans evolve, and what are the
similarities and differences between ourselves and other primates?
Learn how early humans migrated across the world, or find out about
the distribution of surnames across the UK.
Dialogue zone: News and Views pods allow visitors to find out
about the latest genomic research, vote on a variety of questions, and
leave their thoughts behind. There is also an area with questions on
issues being discussed by the government’s advisory body, the Human
Genetics Commission. The results of these questions will be compiled
and sent to the HGC at regular intervals, to feed into their
discussions.

Wellcome Trust and support from the
Sanger Institute.
At-Bristol and Ecsite-uk are now planning the tour and are offering
the 350m² exhibition to host venues in the UK for approximately six
months each until 2012.
The first eight will have the opportunity to host this innovative and
ground-breaking exhibition free of charge. In return, these partner
venues will be asked to contribute to the evaluation of the Inside DNA
project, helping Ecsite-uk to learn more about how users are
interacting with the exhibition and participating in the formal and
informal programmes. Partner venues will receive full support
including a programming pack, staff training and a marketing and media
pack.

Great Apes - How great are you? |
|
“The clock is standing at one minute to midnight
for the great apes.”
Klaus Toepfer, Executive Director of UNEP, 2003.
One great ape species – humankind – is largely responsible for driving
the others, bonobo, chimpanzee, gorilla, and orang-utan, to the verge
of extinction in the wild.
In conjunction with GRASP (UNEP/UNESCO’s Great Apes Survival Project)
and other leading experts, At-Bristol is creating an interactive
exhibition showcasing endangered primates and their need for
conservation.
Great Apes gives an overview of the plight facing
the great apes and includes interactives, great ape artefacts, moving
footage and stunning imagery – all in a family-friendly atmosphere.
The exhibition has four main areas, demonstrating the following
themes and linked so as to provide a continuous journey around the
exhibits:
|

|
-
great ape species and biology
-
apes as individual cognitive beings and their similarity to us
-
threats to the survival of the great apes and their
habitats
-
what you can do to help prevent their extinction and
what is happening in your local area.
|
The content of the exhibition aims to:
-
introduce the evolution and biology of great apes,
their status as a family of endangered species and how closely related
humans are to the other great apes
-
focus on great apes as individual, intelligent,
cognitive beings
-
provide an environment for comparison between the five
great ape species
-
highlight some of the most recent findings in
primatology, including comparative biology and behaviour
-
demonstrate the main threats to wild populations of
great apes and the terrible effect humans are having on our wild
relatives
-
highlight the importance of great apes in forest
ecosystems and as indicator species
-
raise awareness of the conservation of great apes in
the wild, highlight the conservation aims of GRASP, and encourage
positive future action by showing how people can help.
|
 |
“The continuing destruction of habitat, the growth
in the commercial bush meat trade in Africa and increased
deforestation in Indonesia, have led some scientists to suggest that
many great ape populations will be extinct in the next ten to twenty
years. Drastic action is needed.”
GRASP, 2003.

Sport is about more than just fitness, it's about minds and bodies,
and the advances in technology that open up new sports to new
audiences.
LoveSport the exhibition is everything that sport should be -
accessible, fun, challenging and most of all, for everyone! It
combines all the feelings associated with sporting endeavour, from
grass roots to superstardom, from the World Cup to jumpers for goal
posts!
The exhibits within LoveSport encourage visitors to get active, trying
their hand at both familiar sports and some they may not have
considered before. Each one asks the visitor to think about and
experiment with the science behind sport, whether it's coordination in
basketball or the aerobic warm up.
LoveSport helps to keep the
momentum going by showing visitors how to get involved in local clubs
and activities following the visit.
