Science Learning Centre South West

Inspiring Science Education

Science Learning Centre South West is run by a partnership between At-Bristol, the University of Bristol and the University of Plymouth.

We have consulted hundreds of teachers and technicians to identify the courses needed to offer a high quality continuing professional development for science teachers, technicians and learning support assistants from primary, secondary and Post-16 schools and colleges. Although we are called a ‘centre’, courses are delivered at an increasing number of different venues across the region.

Courses run to date have all received positive feedback in evaluations, with participants praising the relevance of course content, quality of course delivery and excellent resources and facilities.

In addition to our courses the Centre’s extensive facilities and expertise are available to anyone who wishes to use them. With our Bespoke courses we can tailor a course, away day or special event to suit your needs. Our new Resource Room is usually open during At-Bristol opening hours, and is free of charge to all educators.

We are also looking for teachers, technicians and teaching assistants to spread the word about the work of the Science Learning Centre. By becoming an Ambassador you can help us to inform colleagues of what is on offer and let us know what is needed in your area.

Moreover there are Secondment opportunities, allowing creative science educators, who want to share best practice, contribute to courses and if appropriate, develop their own skills in delivering continuing professional development to their peers, to help shape and deliver Science Learning Centre South West’s programme.
