Curiosity zone

Come along and investigate the wonders of the world around you! Get into a spin on a human gyroscope or pluck a magical harp.

Walk through a tornado, investigate lightning, whirlpools and magnetic fields, play with light and optics, mirrors, and reflections – and freeze your own shadow! You can even take a look at the wonky side of life in our new leaning lounge…
In Play TV you can become the star of your own TV show, or work behind the scenes to mix and produce your own programmes. If you’re still feeling energetic, try to beat the computer in a hilarious game of virtual volleyball!

The Curiosity zone creates a sense of wonder and excitement about natural forces and phenomena in the world around us - continually asking you to be inquisitive, identify patterns in nature and question the reasons why things occur.

Thermal imaging

Thermal imaging
Although our eyes see visible light, there are lots of other detectable parts of the spectrum. Thermal imaging cameras measures infrared light, which is just outside the visible spectrum. Explore your thermal image on our plasma screen – find your ‘hot spots’, compare hairy with bald and shuffle your feet on the carpet to see the heat on screen!

Leaning lounge
A perceptual trip through the world of illusion! Our lounge is on a tilt – it looks normal from the outside but inside, it alters the visitor’s perception of their surroundings. Does the pendulum hang straight? Can you make a ball roll up-hill? Weird and wacky stuff!

Play TV
