We are feeling refreshed and ready for action after a week of sprucing up the venue.
Although the venue has been closed for a week after a manic summer, At-Bristol staff haven’t been having a tea break and resting on our laurels. Instead lots of preparations are being made for the year ahead and our new exhibition Our World.
Our Learning team have busy developing a whole range of new workshops for the start of the new term. School groups can book into a range of enriching workshops, lively shows and special theme days including The sense-sational brain show which explores the links between the senses and your brain or Forensics special theme day where pupils work in labs to learn crime scene investigation techniques. Plus we are now offering specially designed Planetarium shows for schools.

Our Exhibitions team have been busy, as well as giving the exhibits a bit of a spruce and polish, they have started to install some features for the latest addition to the At-Bristol floor - Our World.
Opening 2012 Our World is going to look at the Earth and it’s clever recycling systems after all did you know we’re made of volcanoes, ancient seas and dinosaurs? Next time you come into At-Bristol you will notice a brand new dome structure which will house the future exhibits – so watch this space…
And then there have been a couple of new members to the Live Science team and lots of staff training so we are all ready and raring to go!

And it’s only two weeks until the next Toddler Takeover day Splish, Splash, Splosh! So it’s almost time to start dusting off your raincoats and wellys ready for the wonderful watery day especially for the under fives.

Never mind the hoards of visitors to the At-Bristol farm, the At-Bristol staff have been giving the people of Bristol a run for their money! They have kicked more cabbage footballs and made more Naughty pigs than Shirley sheep has had hot pies!

So far we have had over 100 At-Bristol staff volunteer to shepherd flocks of little lambs round all the Championsheep challenges. We have had senior management running the show, over 86 event support staff and three farmyard fitness fanatics – Frankie, Franny, Fifi!
We are also lucky enough to have had over 64 volunteers mucking in and lending a helping hand throughout August. Twenty five of whom were corporate volunteers from DTZ and Rockpool which was fantastic and they were all baa-rilliant – thank you!
Everyone has well and truly kicked the farmyard into shape and made sure all the scarecrows, sheep, chickens and pigs have been keeping sheep-shape and At-Bristol fashion!
But there is still more to do so if you think you know your chicken from egg and your lamb from your hogget... we want to see you.
Ewe’ve only got seven days left!!
And remember to say a cheery hello to the At-Bristol staff and volunteers!
Dam! At-Bristol’s Beaver days are good!

The At-Bristol Learning Team are busy beavering away on the packed summer programmes including exploring the human body in Live Lab, K’NEX challenges and Paper Plane masterclasses – but they aren’t the only beavers on the Harbouside as we are also looking forward to our upcoming Beaver, Brownie and Cub events.

We are particularly excited about the Beaver experiment badge days on the 15th and 16th of October as we will be helping local Beaver colonies celebrate Beaver Scouting's 25th birthday!
And the birthday celebrations are already under way; Alice is currently writing our birthday themed science show and sourcing exploding balloons and fantastic fireworks! And Gemma is working on the experiment badge workshop which will ensure each Beaver attending will fulfill the requirements for their experiment badge and will be presented with one on the day!
There are still places available on these days so if you are a Beaver, or know one, why not direct them to here for more information.
And they’re off…Championsheeps has launched!

There has been lots of frolicking in the farmyard in this opening week of Shaun the Sheeps Championsheeps LIVE!
Flocks of newly recruited lambs have been whipping the At-Bristol farm into shape with the help of Frankie the Farmyard Fitness Fanatic. They have been helping giant Shirley work off her cakey treats, making millions of naughty pigs from modelling clay and knocking the scarecrows heads off left, right and centre!
It hasn’t been all hard work, there’s been plenty of horsing around! With Frankie and the other shepherd’s encouragements records have been set and broken all over the place! Whether that’s by bouncing around on the sheep space-hoppers or collecting eggs and chicks!
It’s been fantastic and we’ve already had lots of happy winners on our special farmy podium, as you can see below!
If ewe’ve already been to Championsheeps LIVE! and you are getting ovine withdrawal symptoms we have a treat for you – in the way of downloadable Shaun the Sheep masks!
If you click on the links above you can download and print off your choice of mask at home, to make and wear whenever and wherever you feel like it. You too could look as great as this fine thoroughbred!
And if you haven’t had the joy of visiting Championsheeps yet – get downloading, cutting and sticking to start the farmy fun! Show it to your neeeeigh-bours and you could even wear it to Championsheeps when ewe visit – flock on!

At-Bristol wins ‘Attraction of the Year’ accolade!
Blogging science to life
Fri 3 June 2011, Written by: Nicole
We’re still celebrating the news that we were named ‘Attraction of the Year’ last night at Bristol’s Tourism and Hospitality awards!

It was a fantastically glitzy affair with the At-Bristol team enjoying the chance to put down the red t-shirts and lab coats in favour of dinner jackets and posh frocks!
We were pleased and honoured to be shortlisted for two categories; ‘Attraction of the Year’ and ‘Team of the Year’ and knew it would be a tough call as we faced fierce competition in the way of Brunel’s ss Great Britain, Bristol Blue Glass and Bristol Aquarium.
And although the title of ‘Team of the Year’ slipped from our grasp, we were thrilled with our success.

After a year that saw the launch of Toddler Takeovers, lots of Meet the Expert events, Wallace and Gromit workshops and the launch of All About Us this is a tremendous achievement and feels like the icing on the cake!
Congratulations to all of last night winners! And here’s to another year of science-filled fun!

Tue 1 June 2010, Written by: Nicole
Kenneth Macmillan’s 20th century masterpiece Manon, which tells the tale of love, greed, lechery and jealousy, kick starts the Summer Big Screens programme on 1 June. Starting in Paris and ending in the swamps of Louisiana, Manon has to choose between true love and a life of money and has to live with the consequences. Filled with glamour, intrigue and decadence this world-class ballet is brilliant and best of all FREE!
The signature work of the Royal Ballet, Manon, will be broadcast live from Covent Garden to the Big Screen at 7.30pm. But if you want to start your evening earlier there will be theatrical walkabout artists, live bands and musical entertainment on Millennium Square from 6.45pm.
You are invited to bring a picnic and bottle of something to enjoy your evening with. However if you don’t have the time or inclination to grab something, don’t worry, the kiosk will be open and there will be Astroturf a-plenty, ice creams and lots of deck chairs on hand - making it the perfect way to watch the ballet!

So get to together with friends, family, ballet fans and newcomers for an evening of music and dance. Although be warned you might need to bring a box of tissues!
Dates for your diary:
Madam Butterfly from 7.30pm Monday 4 July and Cinderella from 7.30pm Wednesday 13 July.
